About the JP Raptors.

Could Jurassic Park ever really happen? How much of what you saw in Jurassic Park can be considered real? Discuss all of that and more here...

I heard that after the book and movie came out, they did find a Velociraptor that was 6 ft. tall, don't know how long he was, but that proved it, and this was in a science mag, they had John R. Horner on a science show. I think Dr. Grant knows what he is talking about. I hate that that some of the sites say Dr. Grant is a fake, I don't think he is, and I can quote him almost word for word, and I want to go on a fossil find with him too and draw the dinosaurs and enter stuff in the computer for him. :-*he'd get lots of those.

Okay, I'm just going to lay down some simple paleontological facts here.

--Velociraptor mongoliensis: approx. 2 ft. in height and 6 ft. in length
--Deinonychus antirrhops: approx. 4-5 ft. in height and 10 ft. in length
--Utahraptor ostrummaysorum: approx. 8-9 ft. in height and 20-24 ft. in length
--Velociraptor (JP remix): approx. 5-6 ft. in height and 10-12 ft. in length

Now I'll move on to skull structure. Velociraptor mongoliensis's skull was very narrow in the jaws. Deinonychus antirrhops, however, had the broader jaws that adorn the Jurassic Park "Raptors."

On to location. Velociraptor mongoliensis is a native of Mongolia and China. Deinonychus antirrhops is a native of the Western USA, which is where Dr. Grant's team is digging when they find the Jurassic Park "Raptor."

--------

I'm not going to attack Spielberg or Horner over this issue (I only go after Horner whenever he opens his mouth about LARGE carnivores...). Spielberg needed a man-sized movie monster, Velociraptor was in the original book as a highly intelligent killing machine; you put two and two together and you get the current Velociraptor.

However, I only seek to show that the animal used in the movie is closer to Deinonychus antirrhops than it is to any other dinosaur. For a Velociraptor or Utahraptor, it was off scientifically, but for a Deinonychus, it was very, very accurate.

"Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and ye perish from the man, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Arise, O Lord; let not man prevail: let the heathen be judged in Thy sight. I shall purify all with a single blow. Mine enemies stand before mine eyes. Who shall mourn for Division XIII? Who shall mourn for the Vatican?"

It's true, the velociraptors have never been found in Montana.

Simple explanation for why Velociraptor was chosen over Deinonychus: it sounds more menacing, and has a nice shorthand term "raptor."

:cool:Well, I think they were cool anyway and I know they had to follow the book closely so what they had was in there. But, it was a cool movie all in all and I love drawing them. Can't wait for #4 to come out. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

yeah well even if they were actual size they would have been more than they actually are like being super intelligent (more than they are in the movie) and have a very advanced culture so they still would have been exceedingly dangerous
When all is said and done and the world is empty how much does it really matter the amount of money you had or what car you drove?
