i think they either went extinct but had one preserved, or had a few survive and used them for the cloning
i could be wrong though

there were many strange sightings of these animals and it think they weren't extinct.

true, i remember seeing something on the discovery channel showing a video of a sighting of an extinct animal running across the road

thylacine is another name of tasmanian tiger and what i asked was whether the animal in that liquid was the tasmanian tiger

It is thought to be extinct, but it is not clearly known whether or not it is. The last known individual died around 1936.
film clip But because there was no effective way of counting a population, thylacine sightings went down to a nill and so it was thought to be extinct. However, ever since the "extinction" there have been scattered sightings over the years. When the sightings were first reported in the 1930's-1950's, great excitement occured and several expeditions had been launched, many of them reported fighting nothing but footprints. But around the 1960's the expeditions began to thin out.
