Yes, it is different in every state. They don't even offer Driver's Education in school here anymore. If you want it, you have to pay a lot of money to take the classes privately.

Here it used to be at 15 1/2 you can take the written test and get your permit. Then you have to wait 6 months before you attempt the road test for your license. Just within the last year they changed the rules where they made drivers ed mandatory and you need a certain amount of hours on the road with your teacher--blah blah blah-- glad I don't have to worry about that anymore /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Here, you can get your learner's permit when you turn 16, then after 6 months you can try for your license.

Of course, I waited 10 months after getting my learner's permit and I STILL failed the first time!

Here you have to be 17 to apply for a provisional (learners) licence, there are certain exceptions to this rule, but most people don't need to worry about it.

You have to pass a Driving Theory (written) test, and a Hazard Perception test to make sure you know what you are doing. When learning you must be accompanied by someone over 21 who has been driving for 3+ years (I think).

Can't reemmber how long the tests are, but they try to do everything: Junctions, traffic lights, country lanes, roundabouts, etc...
And you have to do two of three of the special manouvers - 3 Point Turn, Reverse round a corner, and Parallel Park. Also, the examiner might ask you to perform an Emergency Stop, but that is up to the examiner.

Here, you get your permit around 15. Then when you turn 16 you have to wait one month and one day after your birthday before you can take the written/driving test.

We have to take a written test to get our permit. Then the driving test 6 months later to get our license.

In Norway it cost ca. 35$ per hour, to take the driving license, but I don't care because I'm only 14, and I've passed the Scooter theory, so next year i'll probably be driving a scooter, or a bike thingy /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" /> (don't know what it's called in English, but we call MOPED)
