He probably wasn't intending to be 'realistic' with the dinos. As you say, he was creating monsters for his movie.

Those V-Rexes remind me of a Barbie doll named Wheelchair Becky (i think thats her name). It was released to tell kids that the disabled are just like those who aren't. But why call her WHEELCHAIR Becky if she is meant to teach tolerance? Well then where is Earbiter Tyson? Hag Cher? JPDb Rex-Jay? SHES MORE THAN JUST A WHEELCHAIR DAMMIT!!!ARRGHKJAGHKJDSHKJ!!ODHgpogap[ouj!~!!!!

(mops up entrails from self-decapitation)

It sends the wrong message, like the V-Rexes. But thats just IMO.

I really hate it when people refer to creature designs for a movie as the director's "vision". I mean seriously, you do realize that most directors don't design their own movie monsters. That's especially true for big-budgeted productions. Just like George Lucas, Peter Jackson probably had a conceptual design department with 100+ people working in it. A director may have the final say on what designs will be used in the movie, but most of the time the artists aren't given specific instructions, so they draw whatever the script calls for in any way they want. Jackson probably just told his designers " Don't make the dinosaurs look like Jurassic Park dinos, make them uglier."

Now that I think about it, the only directors I know of that did conceptual designs for their own movies are James Cameron, and Alfred Hitchcock.

Well whatever.

He did 'Tumbs uped' them. He wanted then that way, he could have wanted different ones. It's his fault in part.

If he wanted them to look like the old movie, the crocodile skin may well be his sugestion...

Did they at least hired a Paleontologist?

Now that's a person that could make them look different than JP while having scientific accuracy...

i think PJ made the dinos different as an homage to Merian C. Coopers horribly done dinos in the '33 orginal(the sauropod snarled and lived underwater)
