I swear, not one single movie this summer has lived up to half of the hype that was built up for it. It's been one lame sequel/remake after another. All I ask is for one decent blockbuster this season. Unfortunately it looks like that's not going to happen. X-Men 3 was crap, Superman Returns was crap, and POTC: Dead Man's Chest was crappier than both of them combined. Jeez, all that's left is Miami Vice, and ...(gulps) Snakes On A Plane.

Worst. Movie season. Ever.

What kind of hype are you looking for?
I personally thought Superman Returns was an amazing film. All the actors including James Madison did well in their roll. The story was very simple to follow, assuming you watched Superman I and II. If you didn’t you were up shits creak. As I’ve read it, it’s supposed to take place between Superman II and III (horrible film, but entertaining). My brother made a comment that they were using flat panel TV’s and cell phones in this movie, so I didn’t quite know how to explain that to him.
I saw Pirates the day it came out; I have to say I almost sh*t myself on how excellent the film was. I thought the story, the acting, and the over-all feel to the film was 10 times better than the original Pirates movie. The only thing I found to be a flaw in the movie to some degree was the fact you had to watch the movie closely to know what was going on. But to me that makes the movie better, more stimulating.
I will agree with you on X3. I was completely disappointed with this movie. Read my reply in the X3 thread for my usual ranting.

Well Jon, they took such a safe route on Superman Returns that it didn't really peak my interest. None of the action scenes were impressive. It was pretty much your standard Super-heroics. I never really got the sense that anyone was in danger, and if there's no sense of risk, then what's the point of including the action sequence?
Also, Lex Luthor's scheme was pretty lame. Instead of hijacking some nuclear bombs, or threatening the world with biological weapons, what does he do? He decides to get into Real Estate. WTF?!!! And don't get me started on Superman's kid. That was the dumbest subplot they could have come up with. Honestly, who didn't see that coming?
POTC Deadman's was way too kid-friendly. Everything that Jack Sparrow did that was a bit funny in the original Pirates was done to death in POTC Dead man's Chest. It was like an episode of Looney Tunes. Oh, ha-ha, doesn't Jack look like a shishkabab. Oh, the crustacean-guy looses his head and can't find his body!!! How humorous!!! (Sighs) I'm surprised that nobody slipped on a banana peel.
Also, POTC Dead Man's chest was nothing but exposition for the next sequel. It was a whole lot of action with little substance. That's what I hate about sequels, they always try to top the last film, and in turn it becomes overkill.

SPOILER WARNING (I think)
QUOTE I never really got the sense that anyone was in danger, and if there's no sense of risk, then what's the point of including the action sequence?
I think the reason for that is because most of the danger was threatening main characters. YOU as the viewer know they won't kill them off(especially with the sequel coming out later). So it's really near impossible to make any sort of danger threaten a main character like Lois Lane, and expect the audience to believe she's going to die. You know Superman is going to succeed. I thought the plane sequence was pretty good, for the action, not the sense of danger. On the other hand, things like the out of control car, well, that seemed too obvious as a decoy(especially when they tried to hide her face at first). Also, in a Superman movie, the action is there for him to SAVE people, not for him to fail in saving people. A Superman movie will never have any real danger that makes you feel like he's going to fail unless they go ahead with the Death of Superman plot.
I think this makes sense. If it doesn't, then please feel free to correct anything I got wrong.
QUOTE Superman's kid.
I have to agree with you there. I didn't see it at first. When Luthor asked "Who is that boy's father?," well, my first reaction was "Where the heck did that come from?" Then when the kid threw the piano, I just shook my head and couldn't believe they actually went ahead with something like that. I mean I'll accept it, but I didn't like it.
