Spielberg: Johnston Gets 'First Dibs' on JP4
Word from the proverbial horses mouth today: JP3 director Joe Johnston is "standing by" to direct JP4, according to Steven Spielberg himself in an exclusive interview with Spielbergfilms.com (celebrating its 5 year birthday!). Calling Joe his "go-to 'Jurassic' guy now," he shoots down any talk that he didn't like JP3. "I think the film is witty and clever, and I think Joe did an amazing job putting together those battles," he says. "I’m a huge fan of Joe’s, and he’s the right guy to do the fourth one." And what about this Breck Eisner guy? No way, says Steven. Great interview, Spielbergfilms.com!

At least I'm not the only one who thinks Joe didn't do a bad job. It was the lack of a script. =)

JP3 was OK, but it seemed kinda pointless plot wise....

Yeah, from a director's standpoint, Johnston did an a-okay job. It was from a writing standpoint, where entire scenes were re-written the day they were filmed and the story contributed nothing to the rest of the series that the movie fell short.

It was a nice stand-alone popcorn flick, yes.

I remember the time where everyone was screaming, "DUDE! JP3 SUXORZ!!!!!" Oh good times. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
But yes, Johnston pretty much was knee-deep in sh*t with the script

It is yet to be seen how good the next film will become with him again at the directors chair. The one to blame for JP3's "shortness and lack of expansion" is Universal for not allowing Butchman to finish the script, which again made Johnston's job harder. It seems they learned a thing or two about rushing these films as there's still no word about the production. When it comes to Johnston, good to know that we atleast have someone. As for Spielberg calling JP3 "smart", I doubt he knows what he's talking about, as he's directly the one to blame for changing TLW's Pteranodon ending to the completely unnecessary and unoriginal San Diego sequence.

When will people stop bringing that up? For Christ's sake, TLW is almost a decade old.
Let it go.

So who was to blame for having the JP3 Raptor in Grant's pre-island nightmare? I don't like the sound of this but I'm still holding out hoping IV will be good. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
