'Production Weekly' Lists JP4, Says Johnston Directs
Costing me $25 of my hard-earned money, today's issue of Proudction Weekly, an industry trade-publication that tracks Hollywood projects, now lists Jurassic Park 4 as "in development", with Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy producting, and Joe Johnston directing. The one-line plot summary still sounds like the movie we've been hearing about, for, oh, almost 2 years now -- "The government has trained dinosaurs to carry weapons and use them for battle purposes". Also of interest: The project is listed as in "Development", even though there are other films that have a tag of "Active Development" -- could this mean JP4 is, as we've suspected for awhile now, stalled in development hell? Is Production Weekly a reliable source? Or is this like saying that IMDB just got updated?

It's tough to tell, but I don't like the idea of that plot still being used.

Suicide? Nah, they're Universal Studios, one horrendous flop isn't going to tank the place.

They've been putting out nothing but flops lately. They've pretty much been going down hill since 1998.

All the major studios have been going down hill since 1998. The only reason why you don't hear much about crappy box-office returns is because studio execs hate bad publicity.

Let me put it this way, 1 in 8 films is a box-office success. The other 7 films are flops. If a studio releases 16 films a year, and only 2 turn out to be box-office hits, then they've done their job. They can thrive off of the box-office earnings, DVD sales and merchandising rights of those 2 films for at least the next 8 months. Even if a studio doesn't make huge returns from 2 successful films, it will keep the business afloat, and that is exactly what most of the major studios are doing right now; the bare minimum to survive.
