Take a look at this Lost World review below. I actually agree completely with everything he says, and the film is actually VERY fun if you follow his ideas.

This guy's site has reviews to quite a few other dvd's (inclduing JP, whose review is semi-agreeable in my terms) and his movie score reviews at:

So what do you think about the Lost World thing?

He sounds a bit pompous if you ask me. The way he spoke about it, you really couldn't tell if he thought it was okay, or he completely hated it. Either way critics are a bit too analitical, and up tight to me. And I'm a film geek! Anyone who takes notes on every movie they see can't really enjoy a movie the way you should. They take movies that they know are strictly for entertainment value and rip them to shreds because it didn't have a poetic meaning, or comment on the troubles of modern society. Sure, those films that try to give you something to ponder about can be very good, but movies that are for simple fun can be just as good. Critics especially love to rip apart comedies, because most of them have a terrible sense of humor. All comedies are just for fun, so that's why the critics hate them.(Okay, well I'm done with my rant on why I can't stand critics.)

Anybody who liked Lake Placid is fine with me. As for JP I actually kinda see his point.

Actually, he makes it quite clear that he likes it. Take another look at it. What he's saying is that people are just barely scratching the surface of the film by expecting something more like JP and complaining about the typical things. He even makes a point of attempting to get people to give the film a second look. I agree with some of it, but I can't say I share his opinion in full. As a stand-alone film, I agree with how he thinks, but as part of the JP franchise and taking the novel into account, I think less of it.
"You sharpen the human appetite to the point where it can split atoms with its desire; you build egos the size of cathedrals; fiber-optically connect the world to every eager impulse; grease even the dullest dreams with these dollar-green, gold-plated fantasies, until every human becomes an aspiring emperor, becomes his own God... and where can you go from there?" "And as we're straddling from one deal to the next, who's got his eye on the planet, as the air thickens, the water sours, and even the bees' honey takes on the metallic taste of radioactivity? And it just keeps coming, faster and faster. There's no chance to think, to prepare; it's buy futures, sell futures, when there is no future." - John Milton
