I wasn't sure if this should go in the "General" forum of the "Sciences of Dinosaurs & Fossils" forum...but I just figured I'd stick it here since it was more about the show than about science. Admins/Mods feel free to move it if you deem necessary
Anyway, surely you've all heard of this thing, right? Dinosaur Planet is a two-night, four-episode miniseries running on the Discovery Channel this Sunday, starting at 8:00p.m. EST. It's by the same group that did that "Dinosaurs of North America" special a year or so back, but this one's got some significantly improved CGI effects (not Walking with Dinosaurs calibur, mind you, but pretty damn impressive regardless), and will supposedly feature some 70 species of dinosaurs.
Personally, I'm pretty excited for this thing, having first seen commercials for it way back in July and (not so) patiently waiting for it and any information related to it. The only concern I have is with the episodes' lengths and the number of animals they initially boasted. They claimed 70, but the site (and all advertisements) have only shown 20...not even half. Not to mention each episode is only an hour long and focuses on one specific animal in each (Daspletosaurus "Little Das," Velociraptor "White Tip," Pyroraptor "Pod," and Saltasaurus "Alpha")...it'll be interesting to see if they really do deliver on all fronts given all that.
Anyone else excited for this thing?

heh..I almost forgot about it entirely. I'll have to check it out. My interest in paleontology has dwindled in recent months, but this may just rekindle my interest.

Well, after having seen the first two, I think it was well worth the wait. Very good stuff. They're a bit behind on their promise to deliver 70 species, though. /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> Not that it's that big of a deal, but still, I don't appreciate the whole "let's build hype by blatantly lying in all the advertisements!" approach that Discovery went with.

Well...having now seen all four, I'd probably say I enjoyed White Tip's Journey the most, which is surprising since the hype Jurassic Park had thrown behind Raptors had sorta burned me out on the creatures. Just seemed like the most well-done of the four overall, and it was nice how they threw in that real-life fossil find with it. Little Das' Hunt and Alpha's Egg were really good, too, though I found the final confrontation between Alpha & Dragonfly to be a bit...anticlimactic? Pod's episode was my least favourite...I mean, it was good, but it just felt too much like Gulliver's Travels with dinosaurs, and between White Tip's Journey and the Troodon in Little Das' Hunt, I already had my fill of Dromeaosaurs, to be honest (perhaps if they had done the fourth episode on, say, a Styracosaurus herd, or maybe a Baryonyx if they wanted to keep it European...).
EDIT: And for the record, I wasn't all that impressed with Christian Slater as a narrator. Dunno what it was, but his voice really bugged me.
Also, I have a question. Okay, Alpha's Egg took place in South America, but one scene features Carcharodontosaurus, which was an African predator. Does this mean that paleontologists now recognize Giganotosaurus carolinii as a species of Carcharodontosaurus (C.carolinii, in other words, as opposed to Africa's C.saharicus), or was it some excuse like, say, "they migrated," or was it just a goof-up?
