As far as I'm concerned there is nothing that I'm more excited about. Here's just a sample of the new monster designs
This movie is gonna rock. 13 monsters, major world cities, expanded budget, international location shooting, the works.

There are four things that bug me about this thing, though...
The Plot -- From the synopsis I read, it seems more like a Power Ranger movie than a Godzilla one. Powerful mutant superheroes team up with aliens to stop the big, bad monsters, etc. etc. That's...lame. Maybe if it were JUST the Planet X aliens (and I mean bring back the design from Monster Zero & everything), it'd work. But their superhero team just might stick a wrench in the whole mess.
The Monsters -- Angilas, Gigan, Manda, Rodan, & King Caesar are BIG pluses. However, half the cast includes the complete throwaways that NOBODY cares about. The lobster, the mantises, the spider, the Michelin Tire Man...why not Gorosaurus or Baragon or Biollante or Gaira or Varan? Old fan favourites or formidable foes from the past. Not THE MANTISES, for crying out loud!
Monster X? -- The biggest travesty by far is the introduction of a new (and UGLY) monster named Monster X as the "greatest foe Godzilla ever faced." Meanwhile, the TRUE greatest foe Godzilla ever faced is absent. If this is the "final, 50th anniversary Godzilla film," then his greatest nemesis King Ghidorah should have some sort of significant role. Nobody's crying about Mothra being "overused," so why not? Instead of trying to pass off this hideous upstart as the "greatest rival," why not put the REAL DEAL in the role? I could've easily overlooked my other three complaints if only King Ghidorah were in instead of this stupid Monster X thing.
The Ending -- I don't mean to spoil anything, but from what I hear the ending is set up to be VERY anticlimactic and FAR from the final blaze of glory Godzilla deserves for a send-off.

"Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and ye perish from the man, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Arise, O Lord; let not man prevail: let the heathen be judged in Thy sight. I shall purify all with a single blow. Mine enemies stand before mine eyes. Who shall mourn for Division XIII? Who shall mourn for the Vatican?"

I beg to differ. At least as it pertains to the original, untouched Japanese release of the first film. The effects were state of the art in 1954 and the whole movie was basically one big metaphor for Japan's half of WWII.Alexander wrote:Godzilla was never epic.

I'm a Godzilla nerd. And nothing pissess me off more than to read the latest news on Monster Zero about Final Wars. I was hoping for the next GMK, when all I read was a clone of Destroy All Monsters.
But this time, we've got power rangers thrown in instead of "astromen" and just for kicks, let's throw in a retarded looking Monster X! Uh .. what happened to King Ghidorah? Wasn't he what the original rumours told of?
The concept art for every one of the monsters disapoints me. King Seasar?! MINYA?! And you want us to take this movie seriously? And, to make it even worse, it's eveb ripped off X-Men. So now, we've got Super Human Powered X-Men Power Rangers! Oh, but since we've done everything else wrong, let's throw in some Alien Race that wants to concquer earth for some damn reason that doesn't even matter anymore.
What a great way to end the Legend of Godzilla! Take all the lamest elements of the poorest additions to the series, stir it up, add some new age plot elements, take a huge sh*t in it, and call it a day. Instant classic. I think Toho's outdone Jaws 2.
Well, ........ that.

I've seen that photo. It looks an awful lot like a Photoshop job.
