From spielbergfilms.com:

"April 18, 2006
'Jurassic Park IV' delayed further?
Producer Frank Marshall ("Raiders of the Lost Ark") recently spoke with the UK's Empire magazine, and a bit of largely inconsequential chat, followed by a big bit of contradictory information about "Jurassic Park IV" came into the conversation.

Regarding the "Jurassic Park" tradition of colorful characters (and no matter how "cardboard" critics tell you the "Jurassic" humans are, the series has had its share of interesting personalities like Alan Grant, Ian Malcolm, John Hammond, Dennis Nedry, etc...), Marshall predicts that he's "sure there will be some quirky characters in the movie."

Marshall told Empire that series creator Michael Crichton wouldn't be scripting it, and that Steven Spielberg would not be directing it (something SpielbergFilms.com confirmed early last month). He also dropped a potentially perplexing bit of information when he said that they hadn't started writing the screenplay yet, but "they have an idea," and that the film "will happen next year..."

Previous reports have stated that both writers William Monahan ("Kingdom of Heaven") and John Sayles (who previously wrote the unproduced "Night Skies" for Steven Spielberg) had taken passes at drafts of the screenplay, and certain debatable Internet rumors even pointed toward a leaked draft which Sayles more or less confirmed that he'd written.

The information about not having a screenplay drafted and the production start date sharply conflicts with a quote Marshall gave to MTV Movies early last month that claimed, "there's a script, we're getting a director, and we're going to get going probably toward the end of this year." Further, the MTV interview saw Marshall optomistic that "we're going to get going probably toward the end of this year."

Looks like script work may have indeed pushed the production back an entire calendar year. Will the production turn around quickly ala Spielberg's "War of the Worlds" for a 2008 release as Marshall had previously predicted? Stick with us for more "Jurassic Park IV" information as it develops."

Even conflicting news is news, right? As long as he keeps talking about it, I'll be content.

Indeed, I agree. Constant, yet contradictory news is better than no news at all.
