Personally, I've been waiting for something like this for years. They won't be up-to-date with today's special effects, but they're still worth it.

I'd actually prefer them to make a "perfect" restoration without losing quality in certain areas(eg. Lightsaber wash-outs) but with the original editing. No added scenes, no big changes, just the effects touch-ups.

However, I'm game for the original theatrical release versions as I've never seen them, and I'd love to see the movies that people fell in love with almost 30 years ago.

It will be fantastic to see Shaw appear as a ghost once again as he should, and to see Han shoot first like he would.

Either way, I'll be setting aside some money for the set this upcoming fall.

A couple of days ago a friend of mine was just talking about this. He posed it as a concept that people were doing on the side. Much like a movement to recreate the original Star Wars to it's original full glory.

Hmm, that sounds interesting. Was it something people had started working on?

Looks like they won't need to do any work any more, except to raise money for the set. Now if only we could get a combination of the originals and the Special Editions...I mean I don't mind things like the new music at the end of RotJ, but I'm really against things like Hayden replacing Shaw.

Yes. It was something people started working on because Lucas refused to release the original un-edited cut of the Star Wars trilogy. What I understood was people taking the Laser Disc source and re-mastering that. Much to the effect that Lucas did, but without all the special effects that were done in the re-release.

I also here there are people out there editing and redoing the prequels as well. Editing them in a way where the film is actually better in some sense. Now if you’re like me you fell asleep during Episode I. I can never make it though that movie. Every time I get to the pod-racer scene I’m out like a light. So in reality I have yet to see all of Episode I. I’ve made it pass Episode II and III.

Ah yes, I read about that project a while ago. I never saw much more than what you just told me about it though. Well, again, I guess they can stop working now, and just save up about $90.

Yeah, I heard about that too. Things like "The Phantom Edit," etc. I'll admit when the pod race came on (I recently rewatched it after not seeing anything from it for 5 years) I started thinking "Wait..how long is this movie? It seems like it's been a long time since the opening credits.." However, I'm not sure I approve of those edits. I mean, I can understand trying to create an accessible version of the originals, but for me, I'm fine with the prequels as they are. I'll admit, I really wish that "fart joke" during the podrace would just vanish from the movie, but for the most part I'm fine with it.

Wait, so you're saying you never saw the infamous Maul duel? That's considered the best part of the movie and is one of the reasons I got interested in Star Wars.(Well, ok, maybe the movie in general is what did that. I mean I also saw the originals on TV, but I was too young to understand them at that point.) It's also one of the reasons why I tend to be fond of TPM. I mean I like the movie overall, but the duel is what solidifies it in my mind as a good movie (even if it's just waiting for two hours to get to that part /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> ).

Correct. I love the originals, but I'm not a real big fan of the new ones at all.

Ah, I see. Well, if you're at least a fan of Lightsabers/Lightsaber duels you'll love the Maul duel. It's the only one that used a real martial artist (Ray Park) and it's exciting to watch as well. May I ask, what did you think of the Obi vs Ani duel?

(And if you ever watch it, I'd like to know what you thought about the movie after seeing the entire thing, as well as what you thought about the duel on its own.)

I like to stay unbiased myself. I grew up in that middle section of time between RotJ and TPM. I like to keep them all on equal ground in my mind.

Really? Wow, to be honest, I've never heard anyone refer to it that way. Most people, including non-Star Wars fans, praised it. Well, to each his own, I guess.

If Ani got his legs cut off and his face & hair burned off by the intense heat due to the lava... I think I could have pulled off a better fight scene with my ass.

*edit: the amount of CGI used in the last half of Episode III was a major turn off for me. Everything just seemed so damn fake.
